Hand Poured Porcelain Dolls

Doris Allerding has been making dolls for over 25 years and is an award winning artist, taking Best in Show and placing in several art competitions with her beautiful creations.   She is an elder and member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.  We are really excited about Doris’s art.  Talk about a real treasure!!!! – Very few people make dolls in this way anymore.

Doris pours her own porcelain mold which takes days to cure, sands the porcelain, cuts out the holes for the eyes, fires it in a kiln, and sands them again.  Some of her dolls have opened mouths – very rare in porcelain doll making as one wrong tap while chiseling open the mouth can destroy the entire mold.  She paints the faces and each tiny eyelash is positioned just so around each eye.  She also makes the bodies and each piece of clothing.

From start to finish, one doll can easily take 2-3 weeks to complete.
