The Indian Arts & Crafts Act of 1990 was recently updated to stiffen penalties for anyone misrepresenting native american art who is not a member of a federal or state recognized tribe. This Act intended to protect native artists is also a detriment to many native people not recognized by the government. In the United States, indigenous people are the only population whose race is determined by a piece of paper.
Strong Wind Arts fully complies with the Indian Arts & Crafts Act. We have artists who are enrolled in federally recognized tribes, artists who are not enrolled but are of native descent, and non-native artists offering.... art!!
